About Steve
There are many ways to describe Steve Schapiro:
Writer. Editor. Photographer.
Traveler. Marathon Runner. Coach.
He is passionate about inspiring others to follow their dreams and help people go beyond what they know is possible. Steve does this by telling people’s stories. Whether writing a short news brief or a full-length magazine feature, his work reveals the depth and detail of his subject, as well as its personality.
He also uses his photography to capture the beauty of the moment—whether it is a classic airplane on the flight line, the silhouette of a lone tree at sunrise, or capturing the character of an event.
Steve learned his craft at a young age, spending Saturdays flying all over the state of New Jersey with his father, aviation writer Jack Elliott. Steve earned his private pilot’s license when he was 17 and owns the Piper Cherokee Arrow that his father picked up new in 1968 at the factory in Vero Beach.

While he has focused on writing about aviation in recent years, Steve also has written about politics, government, baseball, and environment and energy issues. He has worked as a policy advisor to a governor, served as the editor of an online news service, and was a non-profit director of a marathon training program that raised money for AIDS services providers.
